wow, it’s been a while – since i posted and since i actually got my FAT@$$ out and worked out (i’m not going to call the snow shoveling a couple days ago a workout, even though i was quite sore afterwards). this morning, got up and headed over to PHS with a couple of the ol liftin cats. went through a whole host of CF and CFFB workouts before settling on:

“Lynne”

Five rounds for max reps of:
Body weight bench press
Pull-ups

didn’t know body weight when we started the workout, so i just threw some saucers on top of the 185lbs that the boys were lifting – so that’d be 255lbs on the bench portion.

My Results:
R1: 11,6
R2: 8,4
R3: 6,3 1/2
R4: 6,3
R5: 7,3

not the greatest, but after not doing ANYTHING for months, it sure felt good to be working out again. i definitely need to get back into workouts and with the closing of the fitness center, i’m out of a stellar workout facility. i’m thinking about joining the Crossfit club in woodbury… the closest one i can find to mi casa. anyone know anything about it?

so memorial day weekend has come and gone. and an extra day off on both sides of the break and now it’s time to get back into the fray! i didn’t know where to start coming back, today is the thursday workout that i did last week before the break (the Max Recovery workout). so i did the Cardio Abs workout today. it’s a quick one and i did not do it as much as i should’ve the first month. i’ll start with day 40 tomorrow and get back into Max workouts (eek!). sad thing is, i still find myself dripping with sweat.

the holiday break for me was nice and relaxing. i went up to the cabin to get some fishing in – pretty low key weekend. j and the wife stayed back and so did cocoa. i got a bunch of fishing in (caught a lot of largemouth bass and small pikes, but not the crappies and walleyes we were looking for). and even slept in a couple days

it’s good to be back though; i missed being away from the family – even though it was just a couple days.

i know everyone is super excited to read about how pathetic i feel during my workouts everyday, but this next month is crazy busy with traveling for work and, well, summer stuff. for instance, this weekend i’m taking a “Me Weekend” (even though the wife needs a Me Month more than i need a Me Weekend), leaving the entire family behind (even Cocoa) and going to the cabin/shack to celebrate the Memorial Weekend with the extended family. i’m positive the pup is very displeased with this plan of attack.

with that being said, i will not be able to get the insanity workouts in – i will be plenty active, so i’m fine with that portion of the agenda. the big question is: “what do i do when i come back?” where do i start back up with the insanity workouts? i’ll be back Tuesday night, so Wednesday AM, do i go back and re-suck at the last Wednesday workout? i think that’s what i’ll do. like i told Julie a couple days back, i don’t know what Shaun T would suggest, but this is what i’m doing. i’ll be gone various 3-4 day stints in June, so i’m not sure how this will affect my insanity workouts other than that it will. gotta stay flexible like a Romanian gymnast.

so until then, enjoy the beautiful weather (if you’re in the midwest), get outside, wet a line and most importantly, thank a serviceman/woman for giving us a reason to celebrate this weekend!

on the bright side, i got the okay from the wife to workout MWF (instead of MWT), so my workouts will be more spaced out – yay!

also of note, my 100 push up challenge is going swimmingly – 1/4th of the way done. it starts to get difficult pretty soon – if memory serves.

So after running on monday, and a killer but seemingly not so bad workout on wednesday, i finally made it into the weight room to get my 3rd workout in a week.

Doing the CrossFit Football workout for today, which consisted of:

4 rounds of 7 cycles, one cycle:
power clean, front squat, push press, back squat and good morning.

rest 90 seconds between rounds, and during the round, no dropping of the weight. a drop costs a penalty of one burpee at the end of the workout.

My results:
1x 95lbs
3x 115lbs
2 penalties (drops)

i didn’t know what weight to use for this workout, so i started out at 95lbs for the first round. it wasn’t easy, but i decided to go up for the second round to 115lbs. this wasn’t easy. and while my forearms were burninating the neighborhood, i finished with only two penalties.

i finished up with 3×5 in bench and felt the bad kind of pain in my hammy on my second set of 3×5 in the squat, so i stopped. twas not a pop, but definitely NOT a good hurt. hoping tomorrow feels better.

Well, Wednesday is usually a Rest Day and since i used up my rest day yesterday, i did the CFFB WoD from yesterday: Tuesday, January 5th, 2010.

Now this morning, i was feeling the workout from Monday. Lats and arms: SORE… but that just tells me I’m alive or that’s what i keep telling myself. i do not like pull-ups. for one, i’m fat and out of shape and it takes a lot of work pulling myself all up ons that bar! to some extent, i feel like John Pinette “I don’t do ups”:

but not completely have i reached the John Pinette level of fitness

Lo and behold… the WoD we did today, had more pull-ups and this time they were weighted pull-ups.

Another time-limited workout – 20 minutes. one round consisting of:
1 rep deadlift 80% 5rm
1 weighted pull-up 25lbs
3 reps deadlift 80% 5rm
3 weighted pull-ups 25lbs
5 reps deadlift 80% 5rm
5 weighted pull-ups 25lbs

since i’m just starting up again, i had no clue where my 5 rep max was for deadlift… so i approximated. i set my deadlift bar at 335 for this workout, which felt pretty solid.

My results:

4 full rounds, 1-3-5 reps on dl and 1-3 pull-ups.

and again the pull-ups killed me. i will NOT be doing pull-ups tomorrow AM.

after that, i did the BFS 3×3 power clean workout. which felt pretty good, until i formed a blister on my hand and immediately ripped it open. time away from the weightroom is not good for the hands.

Now, time to bust out my 6 push-ups for the 100 PushUp Challenge and get ready for tomorrow’s workout – i think i’ll do some agility ladder (found some new things to try out, thanks to the google).

This morning i started up the workouts at Park HS, I will only be able to lift there three days a week (M-W-T), but i’ll do the best i can. I’ll be pulling workouts from either CrossFit (CF) or CrossFit Football (CFFB). usually i try to do the “Workout of the Day” (WoD) for CFFB, but sometimes i’m unable to because the WoD requires equipment we don’t have at PHS (i.e. row machines, 40lb med balls, rings, etc.) or maybe i just don’t want to do the workout . the backup plan at that point is to check recent WoDs that i missed in my days not able to get over to Park on the CFFB site, if nothing jumps out as super exciting, then i meander over to the CF site and find a workout there to do.

Today’s workout on CFFB wasn’t possible because it had ball slams with 40lb medicine ball… which we don’t have at Park… so i looked back and gave the boys i workout with an option… “Cindy”, “Mary” or “Angie” (the CrossFit realm will give girl names to some of their common workouts and also honors fallen soldiers with some very intense and difficult workouts – i still remember doing the ‘Tillman’ WoD last spring). They chose Cindy, which, i’m not sure i’m happy about, but it happened nonetheless.

Cindy

Cindy is a time-limit workout – 20 minutes. and in that 20 minutes you do as many rounds as possible of the given regimen:
5 Pull-ups – 10 Push-ups – 15 Squats
so you do 5 pull-ups, then 10 push-ups and 15 squats (bodyweight), that’s one round. do as many as you can in 20 minutes.

My result: 10 rounds

Not terrible, considering i haven’t done any real working out in a couple months – but i’m sure not used to finishing last in these workouts.

I then got a quick lift in did 3×3 in towel bench and front squat. it felt good to get back into the weightroom, but i’m going to be feeling it in a couple days that’s for sure!

100 pushup challenge… yesterday i did 50 pushups. today, i just did my 51 pushups. outside of a sporadic p90x workout, that’s all i’ve been able to find time to do in terms of working out. it blows like the wind on a blustery day, but as of late, i just do not have the time to workout.

funny side note:
wednesday night, i was wrasslin’ with cocoa and as i bent over to steal away her rawhide bone, she decided to jump up onto the bed. my head went down, her’s went up at an incredible rate of speed. heads met and short story nearing completion, she gave me a small cut right above my eye and it’s starting to turn colors… if i would’ve had the time, i could’ve come up with a couple good stories as to how i got the black eye, but if you read the previous paragraph, the same concept applies. in fact, i’m surprised i found the time to type a blog post today!

on sunday, i’ll be leaving for orlando, fl for a week long conference for work. it should be interesting, first time i’ve gone to one of these things. i’m expecting to learn a lot about iMIS (that’s our membership program at PF). and it will be integral to my position, which could possibly be changing at PF in the not-so-distant future… dun, dun, dunnnnnnn

maybe it’s just the geek in me, but I’m excited about the first full release of firefox 3! and i might just be a part of history… if you feel like you’re the kind of person who might be world record material, read more at the Spread FireFox web site.

I’ve been using the beta and RC1-3s of FireFox 3 (FF3), but a lot of the very useful add-ons that i use haven’t been upgraded for FF3 yet, so i’m very excited for this release, so that the developers can update the add-ons for FF3, especially the theme designers (i miss Noia, it feels so weird with another theme, when it’s my computer).

for those completely lost, firefox is a web browser. a far superior web browser than IE. it’s faster, standards compliant, safer, open source and has the backing of millions if not billions of geeks around the world. the add-ons are extremely useful (especially for a computer geek like myself) and greatly reduces the time it takes to find issues in a website (for the early stages in design and for tweakings towards the end). if there weren’t a handful of stupid websites that actually require IE, i’d completely ditch it. however, i am not so lucky. sign up for the download and prepare to surf like you’ve never surfed before…
