i’m not sure going back and doing some of the first month workouts was such a good idea… i thought they’d be a lot easier… and all that has happened so far has been me remembering the exercises that i’d loathed for an entire month and had conveniently forgotten about (i.e. mummy kicks and mountain climbers). either i’m in better shape and able to push myself or the last month has been a HUGE setback. there are two weeks left for me, and a fit test on monday to kick off the final stretch, so that will be the final answer for that question. as for catch up week, i got two workouts in from the first month. and we’ll get back into the swing of things on monday – back into the Max workouts following the fit test.

after yesterday’s workout, my calves and feet were just achin’. needless to say, this workout didn’t help that situation too much. the calves are still tighter than spandex on a fat guy. but as i’v always said, it sure feels good to break into that dripping sweat and be all done with a solid workout.

no, your eyes are not deceiving you. i finally got my fat @$$ out of bed in the morning and got a workout in. instead of jumping back into the Max workouts and pretty much dying, i figured it would be a good idea to catch up on some of the first month workouts that i missed back in april and may. so filling in the gap i left in the first week, i got the Cardio Power and Resistance workout done from Day 3. with the thought of tomorrow doing the Plyometric Cardio Circuit from day 10. and because i’ve not done much of anything the last couple weeks, this kicked my butt! doing power squats in the warmup was tough, my knees weren’t fully warmed up until the 2nd round of warmups. this workout wasn’t as bad as i remembered – those Max workouts definitely put these workouts into perspective. fit test on monday… that should be interesting.

this morning i just wasn’t in it… with the upcoming holiday weekend, i was up late last night making some pasta salads, plus the mentality of all around me (coworkers have already checked out for the long weekend, K is done with her classes for a couple months – so she’s finally starting to relax a bit, etc.) added to the fact that i’m still sore as H-E-double hockey sticks! physically, i think today was a better workout – i slowed down, worked the form a little harder and pushed myself to last longer through each exercise. mentally, like i said, just wasn’t all there. time to focus through the day (somehow).

i’m going to be up at the family cabin this weekend (leaving tonight) for the 4th of July holiday, so i’m not going to be able to do tomorrow’s workout (Max Interval Sports Training) – but i’ll make sure i get some physical exercise in over the weekend. PLUS, my family is going to be a part of the holiday parade in Ashland, WI. i’m fairly sure that will require a fair amount of walking and monday is the 4th fit test… this one will be interesting, for sure!

Insanity – Day 47: complete!

inspirational quote of the day:
“”To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.”

Max Recovery – a bitch of a workout. how i can sweat that much without moving hardly at all is amazing. and while i do appreciate the soreness at times, i am about ready to be over this phase of workouts

that’s the goofy thing about these workouts and the mentality of an athlete. why do i do it? why do i put up with all the pain, soreness and exhaustion? cuz i like being pushed, i like being challenged and i LOVE overcoming the adversity of the tough workouts. now my mental being does hold me back to some degree but that’s just another challenge for me to conquer. all this pain and slight discomfort, well, it let’s me know i’m alive. and that’s not touching on the obvious health benefits being in shape offers. i’ll save that for another day.

Max Interval Plyo – a tough workout, welcoming me back. a regular routine, i’ve found, is very important for me. and i hope to get back into said routine. 18 more days of insanity. and i just looked at the calendar – i did the wrong workout today. i was supposed to do the Max Interval Circuit. Looks like i’ll be doing that tomorrow – something to look forward to!

my last insanity workout was June 4th – it’s now June 28th… eek! i should’ve finished the 60 day progrm last week. June was crazy busy with work trips and family stuff. i know, excuses are like @$$holes – but we’re getting back into the routine. took today off of work, so i could get some fitness center stuff done. Due to the crazy month of June, i haven’t been back over here at all since the 4th.

I was torn as to how to handle the return – do i start all over from day 1? do i jump back a week and start the 2nd month all over? well, what i did was start where i left off. i will probably not see the “atypical” results i see on the infomercial this go round due to the break and my poor dietary habits. but we’ll see where we end up. next fit test is next monday, so we’ll see how bad the drop is before going down the final stretch (only 3 weeks left of this go-round). regardless, i struggled through the Max Cardio Conditioning video today. i knew it was going to be tough and i was spot on. it felt like it’s been 24 days since i’ve done much of anything… oh wait, it has been! but damn, it feels good to sweat this much and be this physically spent!

so memorial day weekend has come and gone. and an extra day off on both sides of the break and now it’s time to get back into the fray! i didn’t know where to start coming back, today is the thursday workout that i did last week before the break (the Max Recovery workout). so i did the Cardio Abs workout today. it’s a quick one and i did not do it as much as i should’ve the first month. i’ll start with day 40 tomorrow and get back into Max workouts (eek!). sad thing is, i still find myself dripping with sweat.

the holiday break for me was nice and relaxing. i went up to the cabin to get some fishing in – pretty low key weekend. j and the wife stayed back and so did cocoa. i got a bunch of fishing in (caught a lot of largemouth bass and small pikes, but not the crappies and walleyes we were looking for). and even slept in a couple days

it’s good to be back though; i missed being away from the family – even though it was just a couple days.

inspirational quote of the day:
“Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.”

i know everyone is super excited to read about how pathetic i feel during my workouts everyday, but this next month is crazy busy with traveling for work and, well, summer stuff. for instance, this weekend i’m taking a “Me Weekend” (even though the wife needs a Me Month more than i need a Me Weekend), leaving the entire family behind (even Cocoa) and going to the cabin/shack to celebrate the Memorial Weekend with the extended family. i’m positive the pup is very displeased with this plan of attack.

with that being said, i will not be able to get the insanity workouts in – i will be plenty active, so i’m fine with that portion of the agenda. the big question is: “what do i do when i come back?” where do i start back up with the insanity workouts? i’ll be back Tuesday night, so Wednesday AM, do i go back and re-suck at the last Wednesday workout? i think that’s what i’ll do. like i told Julie a couple days back, i don’t know what Shaun T would suggest, but this is what i’m doing. i’ll be gone various 3-4 day stints in June, so i’m not sure how this will affect my insanity workouts other than that it will. gotta stay flexible like a Romanian gymnast.

so until then, enjoy the beautiful weather (if you’re in the midwest), get outside, wet a line and most importantly, thank a serviceman/woman for giving us a reason to celebrate this weekend!
