After two days of barely being able to walk (still reeling from those 100s on Monday), i did manage to get out of bed early this morning and get of to the HS… able to overcome the adversity of soreness, the workout today called for:

3 Rounds for time:
10x Standing BroadJump
21x Kettlebell Swings 2 pood – i substituted a 75lb DB, since we don’t have KettleBells
24x pushups

My Result:

7:33

was a LOT more intense than i thought it would be (i should really stop thinking these workouts to be easy at face value). after the workout and an acceptable rest period, i did a 5-3-1 power clean workout and 3×5 in the deadlift.

Note to Self:

i need to add a page of all-time PRs and current PRs for the various lifts and workouts that i do on a regular basis, at least the 4 core lifts (bench, squat, power clean and deadlift) and some of the BFS exercises (vertical, standing broadjump, pro-agility, etc.).

i’m not gonna lie to you, i stumble… and i stumble quite a lot. for those who have no clue what i’m talking about… and more than likely you’re a silly IE user… i’m talking about a wonderful FireFox add-on called StumbleUpon (however, i just noticed that it works with IE now? interesing. well, IE STILL $UXX0RZ!)

NEway, i stumbled across this post whilst stumbling today… and it’s true. i look at my old code (on this site and other websites i’ve designed) and i almost want to puke at how poorly they’re done. now, this could be due to the fact that i’ve grown ten-fold (if not more-fold) with the knowledge i’ve attained regarding web design and coding in general. i keep thinking to myself, “self, you should really go back and redo some of those websites”… then, now stands up and says “hold on, you’ve got plenty to do already”. and that’s where this silly little self-conversation stops. i’ve started working on a re-design of this site (and it’ll prolly sit dormant for a year or two before it really takes shape) – hey this was a big upgrade from the previous site (right? or should we all be wondering why this guy is in the web business at all? (don’t answer that)).

the point of this rambling… is i’ve grown in my coding. and i consider that progress. course, how long will it take for the stuff i’m workin on today that i consider to be pretty decent code… to become crap? ah, who the crap cares! HA!

wowsers, it’s been way too darn long since i last posted… i know you all are waiting on baited breath for more of my words of wit… unfortunately, i just got back from a fundraiser and i tired as the fat kid in class. i did feel the need to post an email i got, i’ve gotten it before, but with the snow we’ve gotten over the weekend and the stupid people all around that annoy the crap outta me, this just seemed overly appropriate. enjoy:

Obituary of the late Mr. Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn’t always fair; and Maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6 -year-old
boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Calpol, sun lotion or a band-aid to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.
His 3 stepbrothers survive him; I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I’m A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

i seem to restate the obvious every time i post – but i’ve neglected these wonderful posts – i guess i need to take me some blog fiber and get more regular.

NEway, here’s the latest:

i just got back from two seperate hunting trips. 1) a trip to SE Nebraska/NE Kansas to do some bird hunting and meetings for work. that was a lot of fun – i was able to stop in des moines and see rusty and laurie for an evening before one of our biologists came down and picked me up in said city before heading to Sabetha, KS. once we got down there, we were able to get out and shoot a couple roosters and some bobwhite quail – my first experience with the bobwhite. i definately need to work on my shooting. this was the first time that i had cocoa out on a hunting trip and she was the most awesomeist! she did a very good job of flushing for me and the few times i actually did shoot the bird, she did a great job of retrieving for me too. she also did a good job of making me feel worse when i missed – she’s got that look of ‘you’ve gotta be kidding me’ down really well. all in all, the trip was a lot of fun and we got a lot of work done – i call that a successful business trip.

2) as with the last 5 years, the weekend before thanksgiving is gun deer opener in wisconsin. unfortunately, i’ve just been deer hunting the last 5 years. fortunately, i’m not done. this trip is a blast every year and this year was no different. my aunts and uncles are wonderfully crazy and we have a lot of fun up there and as a bonus, we get to shoot stuff. this year was somewhat of a down year as things started off kinda slow. but we were able to knock down a couple racks this year and my dad and i both got does, so we’ve got meat and that’s why we hunt – for the fun times and meat. another successful trip.

thanksgiving is always fun and we were able to spend this year’s turkey day with my family. everyone got to meet cocoa and she’s not one to easily pass up on getting some attention. in addition, we got the video from the wedding. whoa nelly – thar be some interesting footage. the videos are awesome; definately worth the wait and the measly $100 we paid for em (is that how you spell measly?? i think you get the point, regardless). the agreement was for two DVDs and because our wedding was so much fun and there was soooooo much excellent footage – the guy gave us the two DVDs, plus a bonus DVD that wasn’t cut up so much, but still showed some wonderfully embarrasing white-boy dancings and all that encompasses the combination of too much fun and a lil alcohol.

and we’re buying a fitness center… more on that later.

we, katie and i, just found out – definately – that Cocoa has kidney disease. We found out that she had some problems two weeks ago when we took her in to get fixed and they ran some blood tests before the procedure. She had some numbers that were off and they ran some more tests. We were hoping it was just a severe urinary tract infection – and we tried some meds to try to fix the problem. another test ran today found no improvement and the infection was cancelled out. we don’t know how long we’ll have our precious cocoa – but we do know that she’ll have a shortened lifespan.

i don’t have pictures, but my sister surprised katie and i with a trip up two weekends ago for a nice lil visit. she’s got pictures of cocoa and the state touch football tournament which she uploaded to her shutterfly account – you can see em HERE.

i don’t get it. she’s got more energy than katie and i combined – she’s always looking to play fetch. i’ve got three toys on the desk right now cuz she wanted to play when i needed to do some website work… she shows no signs that there is something wrong.

…and it’s killing katie and i.

please, if you pray – and if you don’t – pray for katie, pray for cocoa, pray for a miracle, pray for a long and full life for the newest member of my family and a very special dog.
