i love wordpress. it’s a great, flexible, easily customizable, often used and free CMS which started out as merely a blogging platform. I’ve used it for a long time (since v1.2 or something like that), i’ve seen it grow into the mecca of awesome that it has today. there are many benefits of wordpress that i enjoy greatly, including the automatic update from the admin panel, but the one thing that annoys the hells out of me is that stupid ‘hello dolly’ plugin. why must it be included with every update/upgrade? i’ve never used it, i never will. the first thing i have to do after an upgrade is to remove the stupid one-page plugin. it’s a waste. all i’m asking is that you don’t include it when you upgrade. keep it in the new installs, i have no problem with that. but if i don’t want it (which i very much do not), why do i have to keep deleting it from every site i update? if i wanted it, i wouldn’t have deleted it in the first place.

Please WordPress, stop including the ‘Hello Dolly’ plugin with system upgrades!

thank you.

hello, my name is T and i am a geek.

Everyone: Hi, T

i can has a blackberry. it’s my calendar, a gaming device (Texas Holdem anyone?), i tweet on it, i check multiple email addresses… oh, and i can make phone calls with it too.

my gravatar is from a hilarious web video any true designer geek will love. I’ve got accounts on facebook, myspace, linkedin, twitter, stumbleupon, AIM, yahoo!, msn, gtalk, ICQ, skype and more email addresses than any sane person can check on a daily basis.

it’s becoming more and more difficult to put time into any of these – as all these things can be a total time-sucking waste of time. but they’re also a lot of fun – i’m able to keep in touch with friends i’ve not spoken to in a coon’s age.

i’ve experimented with a myriad of different multi-client IM applications; trillian, pidgin and my current favorite is digsby – as it not only combines my most commonly used IMs (aim, msn, gtalk) into one app, it also brings in the aforementioned social network accounts and a few of the email accounts. it’s a pretty crazy-awesome app and i’ve found it VERY useful. having everything in one app – and a FREE app at that! how totally boss is that?

well, i started talking about my blackberry… and it’s about time i bring that back into the fold. this is where blackping comes into play. i like to update the status of the plethora of social networks – but i don’t want to have to do it multiple times – it gets annoying after updating 4 different networks every time i deem it worthy of my time to update the stati (statuses). and i oft liken to update from the blackberry when i’m on the go. sometimes just to show people what twitter is, or something like that – ya know, to keep my geekdom alive and well. so i was googling to see if there was an app out there that could handle all of these social networks and i could update the status for all or, better yet, selective networks all at once. i came across ping.fm – pretty slick. i’m able to send my status to any or all of my social networks at the same time… NOW, let’s take this to the next level. how to get ping.fm functionality on the bb. well, i stumbled across this bb app – blackping. it’s developed by a small operation (if not just one guy), it’s still pretty new and i just downloaded and installed it today. but the test run worked – and i am over due for an update on the site. it’s still fairly rough around the edges, it’s not flashy – it doesn’t have cute graphics, but it does appear to sync with ping.fm using an app key and solves my ‘how do i update all statuses from the bb?’ question quite well.

if you have a blackberry and you are a geek with multiple social networks and selective twitter status on facebook just isn’t enough… check out blackping – let me and the developer know what you think.

THEN whilst i was away in November hunting, we lost power again… this time, the other monitor blew out, didn’t work, gone.

so now i’m using an old 15″ gateway LCD monitor because i got rid of all my old CRT monitors and i have no other options. i’ve been scouring the internets for new monitor deals, but every monitor is a widescreen. why? why can’t i get a nice 4:3 ratio monitor or two? i do not care for widescreen, never have. it’s impossible to get a non-widescreen laptop anymore as well. i’m in the market for some new hardware – but i’m not excited about anything i see. i don’t know how i ever did this in the past… one monitors suck and one small monitors sucks even more.

i have a new quest even though it’s more of a challenge. i started it January 1st, 2009. the quest is (as the title of this post states) 100 push-ups. it’s an idea i got from the CrossFit website – the 100 push-up challenge. that is on the first day, you do one push-up. on the second day, you do two push-ups… you do that for 100 days, each day adding one more push-up. i figured this would be a good reintroduction for me into the world of ‘lifting’ with my shoulder being still not at 100%. today, i did my 12 push-ups. and i’ve noticed me leaning more on my left arm the last couple days of my push-ups. with me being cognizant of it, i’m trying to stay balanced on both of my arms.

initially, i thought it would be cool to post this as 100! pushups… which, of course, would be wrong because i had to google 100!. and google’s fun calculator returned the value 9.33262154 × 10157, which is big much bigger than i had thought… and that’s when i realized 100! is not 1+2+3+4…+99+100… it’s 1×2x3×4…x99×100. alas, the kewlness of the post’s title dropped 100! fold (ha).

all was not lost, however, as i clicked on the link in my search to find the pages of the google search term “100!” or google search “+100!”. and came across the wikipedia page for 100. and i got lost in how cool numbers are. for example:

One hundred is the square of 10 (in scientific notation it is written as 102). The standard SI prefix for a hundred is “hecto-”.

One hundred is the basis of percentages (literally “per hundred”), with 100% being a full amount.

It is the sum of the first nine prime numbers, as well as the sum of two prime numbers (47 + 53, 17 +83, 3 + 97, 41 + 59), and the sum of the cubes of the first four integers (100 = 13 + 23 + 33 + 43). Also, 26 + 62 = 100, thus 100 is a Leyland number.

One hundred is also an 18-gonal number. It is divisible by the number of primes below it, 25 in this case. But it can not be expressed as the difference between any integer and the total of coprimes below it, making it a noncototient. However, it can be expressed as a sum of some of its divisors, making it a semiperfect number.

100 is a Harshad number in base 10, and also in base 4, and in that base it is a self-descriptive number.

this may sound pretty geeky… but dude, numbers are awesomes

you might say to yourself “self, what the??”

and it would only be appropriate for me to try to help you out. so here is my help:

it’s time for me to update the site. I’ve created two brand new Wordpress websites for work (the UplandTales and LEP sites) and i started looking at my site some… i started this site a bunch of years ago and didn’t know jack about how WP works… well, i know more now and i realize i’ve not been using WP to it’s fullest – i’ve been doing a lot outside the box and it doesn’t need to be. i don’t have a design in place quite yet, so i’ll probably just keep the boring old WP standard theme in place until i get something put together (i have some ideas, but they’re still in my head). but i wanted to start putting the blocks in place to use WP as the CMS it’s become and not just a blogging tool as i was using it before.

i love the fluidity of the internets!

edit: i just uploaded and activated my old theme, which surprisingly, doesn’t break anything. w00t! so the site will continue to look like this with not much going on cept the blog, until i get a design/theme put together – so ‘more of the same’, anyone??

maybe it’s just the geek in me, but I’m excited about the first full release of firefox 3! and i might just be a part of history… if you feel like you’re the kind of person who might be world record material, read more at the Spread FireFox web site.

I’ve been using the beta and RC1-3s of FireFox 3 (FF3), but a lot of the very useful add-ons that i use haven’t been upgraded for FF3 yet, so i’m very excited for this release, so that the developers can update the add-ons for FF3, especially the theme designers (i miss Noia, it feels so weird with another theme, when it’s my computer).

for those completely lost, firefox is a web browser. a far superior web browser than IE. it’s faster, standards compliant, safer, open source and has the backing of millions if not billions of geeks around the world. the add-ons are extremely useful (especially for a computer geek like myself) and greatly reduces the time it takes to find issues in a website (for the early stages in design and for tweakings towards the end). if there weren’t a handful of stupid websites that actually require IE, i’d completely ditch it. however, i am not so lucky. sign up for the download and prepare to surf like you’ve never surfed before…
