i love wordpress. it’s a great, flexible, easily customizable, often used and free CMS which started out as merely a blogging platform. I’ve used it for a long time (since v1.2 or something like that), i’ve seen it grow into the mecca of awesome that it has today. there are many benefits of wordpress that i enjoy greatly, including the automatic update from the admin panel, but the one thing that annoys the hells out of me is that stupid ‘hello dolly’ plugin. why must it be included with every update/upgrade? i’ve never used it, i never will. the first thing i have to do after an upgrade is to remove the stupid one-page plugin. it’s a waste. all i’m asking is that you don’t include it when you upgrade. keep it in the new installs, i have no problem with that. but if i don’t want it (which i very much do not), why do i have to keep deleting it from every site i update? if i wanted it, i wouldn’t have deleted it in the first place.

Please WordPress, stop including the ‘Hello Dolly’ plugin with system upgrades!

thank you.

came across this quality XKCD comic today:

wrong focus

while the focus has been on these AIG bonuses – the real problem is the fact that we’ve given them money at all… hey, government stay the FSCK out of the private affairs of businesses! if the government didn’t give AIG and those other institutions the stupid bailout money, we wouldn’t have to <airquotes>waste congress’s time</airquotes> with these unconstitutional-rush-bills that are taking away more and more of our liberties and freedoms…

why don’t people (and i’m referring to anyone in any position in government and the pBO apologists) realize that they are making it difficult for people to be forced to live with the consequences of their actions. face it, not everything you do will turn to gold. not every decision you make will be correct. and when you make bad decisions, bad financial purchases, when you bought a house you couldn’t afford… too F’n BAD. you figure out a way to handle your debts – maybe you’ll have to sell your 52″ plasma TV and your Wii… i don’t feel bad for you. as much as i would like a bigscreen TV and a Wii and a new bigger house, i can’t afford it and so i will have to wait for those luxuries. you should’ve done the same

i got this the other day in an email… a supposed to be funny, ha ha joke…

**The Heaviest Element Known to Science***

*Lawrence Livermore Laboratories has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science.

The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to complete.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2- 6 years. It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Governmentium’s mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.

This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.

When catalysed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

and now, my rant…
i’m not sure if this is a sign of me getting older or what, but i’ve started paying attention to this stuff lately and i’m not sure why. i get annoyed and pissed at almost everything i hear about. the goings ons in DC and in government in general is enough to make a person sick. i don’t want or need help from the government, i work for a living. and i’d rather they (government) just get out of my face.

we live in a house that i’d rather not be in – but we’re making our payments. and NOT looking for a handout. we know we signed onto the deal with our mortgage and we’re living with our decision. if the market tanks and people lose their butts a couple months before their retirement, that’s their fault. if the market tanks and people lose money on their ‘investment properties’ that’s their fault. the government is not supposed to protect people from their own bad decisions. if a company can’t make enough money to stay in business and can’t raise capitol themselves, then the company shouldn’t be around. survival of the fittest no longer applies?

i recently watched wall-e, and we’re going to end up like the people on the ship. we’ve already started NOT doing anything for ourselves. everyone is looking for handouts and bailouts – get off your ass, stop spending more money than you make…

or just wait for the worthless paper check from the government that our kids or our kids kids will have to pay for, selfish pricks

well kids, i just wanted to say bon voyage – as i’ll be boarding a plane and then a boat this weekend. katie and i are goin on a celebratory cruise of weekly proportions (a gift to katie for that graduation thing). i’s bout to grab some eatsies and we be leaving soonly time.

excited is an understatement

i been meaning to write about this for a couple days now. i think the idea of making English the national language of the United States of America is an excellent idea. i’ve always been annoyed when i have to wait for another set of instructions in spanish. and the idea that people can come into this great country and think that for one second they’ve never left home – is, when you get right down to it, a slap in the face. now, when i heard that the morons in the senate are actually doing something that might piss off some people who are trying to move their country here in all it’s (un)glory – and someone turns around and calls it ‘racist’. how the crap is that racist? when i go to france, i expect to 1) know some french 2) know someone who does know french c) expect to get mocked for not knowing french. either way, i’m not going to expect everyone in france to speak english. same with every other country. know the language or prepared to get lost. the only other ‘language’ i want to see menus in – in this greatest country on God’s green earth – is braille. and making english the national language is not racist. don’t try to play ‘the race card’ with everything that is somewhat controversial. “can’t we all just get along?” no, apparently we can’t – and it’s not the white man holdin all the minorities down. it’s all the minorities still thinking there is a glass ceiling. stop making excuses, get off your lazy minority @$$, get a job, know english, get an education, make yourself useful and we’ll all be better off.

not sure where this thought came from, but it came nonetheless. i was playing a few games of freecell, the quest is progressing and i was thinking about stupid people… and how there are way too many stupid people. and then i got to thinking about the olden days, olden even before i was around (i’ve heard stories). about the time when we went outside without helmets to go play in the yard, about the toys we used to play with that had sharp edges, about sockets without that stupid plastic cover. hey, we fell down, got hurt, scrapes and cuts – bled and bruised, but ya know what? we got back up, wiped away the tears and kept on playing after a period of time when it finally occurred to us that cryin wasn’t gettin us anywhere and that it really didn’t hurt that bad anyway. and you know what? after fallin down on the bike, we learned how to balance on two wheels.

what does this have to do with stupid people, you may ask… what DOESN’T it have to do with stupid people and the over population of stupid people on the planet today… if someone didn’t learn the first time that the gym set had sharp edges or if you ran out on the slippery ice or there was something else that, if not done correctly, would cause an individual pain – then that person would continue to get hurt until they corrected their behavior not do continue doing that activity that brought about the undesired effect. seems like common sense, don’t it? the idiot keeps doing it and getting hurt, the non-moron thinks, ‘hey, that doesn’t feel good, i’ll stop doing it’.

i’m not sure exactly when it started, but instead of letting kids learn these things on their own, parents over protected their, sometimes stupid, kids and the kids never learned. the parents made the kids wear helmets to cross the street or put plastic pads on the corners of gym sets or removed the gym sets altogether and made it not a requirement to have a gym class, cuz some people got hurt easily (gee, maybe they should’ve learned earlier in their life on their own how to not get hurt, but mommy cradled them too much). and all this snowballed and it got progressively worse and worse…

now, we’ve gone so far as to idiot-proof so many things (look at warning tags these days, are you kidding me? don’t use toaster in the shower. G.I.Joe parachute not suitable for real person) and made it almost impossible for stupid person to get it through their thick skulls that this activity isn’t advised to continue for one reason or another. and you know what? not only are stupid people living longer (cuz some of the activities that stupid people partook in just happened to kill them, [sarcasm]aaawwwww, poor stupid people[/sarcasm]), but now they’re reproducing stupid offspring and they’re not learning. in fact, they’re teaching stupid offspring how to continue to be stupid.

and all these stupid people are making life difficult for normal people, because now we’ve gotta establish stupid laws and rules. example: high school pole vaulters in minnesota MUST wear a helmet when vaulting. why? because stupid people vaulted wrong/incorrectly and/or didn’t do something correctly and killed themselves or got seriously hurt. (this is a stupid rule made by stupid people for a couple reasons, of which i won’t go into now perhaps another time) hey stupid person, learn how to vault correctly and you’ll be fine.

basically, what i’m getting at is stupid people tend to have stupid voices and these stupid voices are loud. what’s wrong with the world today? stupid people. with all the stupid rules, we’re allowing stupid people to flourish and reproduce and continue to be stupid. why don’t we away with stupid rules and let stupid people kill themselves off? go ahead and let em get hurt over and over again, until they finally learn, ‘hey, that’s not a good activity, perhaps i should stop seeing how long i can stare at the sun and find a better activity’ and ya know what? they might learn something, they might even find a way to contribute to society rather than continue to tear this great land to shreds. let them figure it out themselves, if they don’t figure it out… then they end up dying and that’s not a bad thing either – one less stupid person.

the funny part is, this wasn’t because i read or heard any particular story or article about a stupid people… it’s just a thought that popped into my head whilst playing freecell. i leave you now with a thought, how much gooder would the world be if everyone just had a little bit of common sense?

man, i hate stupid people.

got this from katie’s mom in the emails today… and yes, it’s worthy of a post – i could elaborate on it and add a plethora of examples… but i won’t, for now.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense.

Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn’t always fair. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).
His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. – Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge financial settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

as always… man, i hate stupid people

i don’t know if i’ve grown up or not the last couple years… and i doubt i’ve matured – but i have been listening to talk radio and reading an occasional article or two on cnn or the local paper whilst sitting on the throne at wurk.

and now i know why i never listened to talk radio or read the newspaper ‘back in the day’ – the world is filled with morons and complete idiots. not that this is anything new, but they are louder and are causing more of a rukus than i’ve ever known them to in the past. and the sad thing is that there are supposed to be intelligent individuals in leadership positions to override this stupidity. i know there used to be people who had the balls to tell people they were idiots – but now the ‘representatives’ and other elected officials are more focused on not pissing people off rather than making progress.

to start:

the super bowl in sunday and the biggest story is not the feel good story of bettis’ return to detroit – it’s the seahawks TE Jerramy Stevens making the [sarcasm] asanine [/sarcasm] comment [paraphrase] ‘i think we’re going to win this game’ [/paraphrase] and joey porters rebuttal. and i thought semi-pro was bad – dudes, grow the fuck up. it’s a game and you’re gettin paid millions to play. your paycheck at the end of the DAY is more than the average joe makes in a year (probably, i don’t know for sure, but either way it’s a decent chunk of change). what’s wrong with having confidence in your team and stating that opinion?

in other football news – mcnabb is a racist moron. owens is also a moron. owens’ comments about the eagles being undefeated if favre was their quarterback are a bit far-fetched and not the most proper thing to say about ones own teammate. and that’s another topic altogether. but mcnabb’s comments on owens’ statements being racist (paraphrasing again) and saying that owens was only stating that favre would be a better fit because he’s white? listen to owens’ statement – he didn’t say anything about white, black, green, blue, forest green, olive green, drab green or any other colored players. dude, favre is good. he has been good for a long time. to say that favre wouldn’t be an asset to a team who had an injured quarterback throughout the majority of the season is a fallacy. owens, shut up. mcnabb – get better, you’re a good quarterback, but shut up.

dudes be talking kidnap and murder over a cartoon… wow, where does one begin. peeps been so wrapped up in their own close-minded, no-freedom walks of life that they don’t know a freedom when they see one. nor do they know how to respond civilally (is that a word?). relax people. this doesn’t have to be such a big deal – and peeps be gettin fired over this? oh, and the guns and other threats too… you know, i’m sure a ‘letter to the editor’ would’ve been a good first step, rather than jumping 10000 notches to the threats of murder, death, kill and kidnapping. islamic extremists – shut up.

that poor hooters (ex)cheerleader from ETSU… boo fricken hoo. [paraphrase]i was kicked off the cheerleading squad cuz i work at hooters [/paraphrase]. listen to your coach and cheermates – apparently there was more that lead to your been given the boot. now cnn’s reporting and more specifically WJHL’s Nate Morabito did a horrible job of doing actual reporting on this story and not getting any real information on what all went down. hey, nate – do some real reporting and fill in some of those HUGE gaping holes in the report – and poor hooters girl – shut up.

oh, and i haven’t said this before (i don’t think). but i’ve wanted to everytime her name came up – cindy sheehan, shut the fuck up. and that goes to all of your idiot ‘followers’ too. damn hippies. we’re at war. and there’s a reason we’re there. no, it’s not fucking oil. it’s because some dope tried to steal what my grandpa’s fighted in WWII for: our freedoms. maybe if those nitwits in the big sandbox had some freedoms in the past, it wouldn’t be so bad and it wouldn’t be such a radical change. (cuz we all know how people be fearin the change – even when the change be the best thing). now, i’m pretty sure your freedoms end at exactly the same spot where mine begin. i believe in what we’re doing across the big pond. and it sucks loosing the good men and women who are putting themselves on the line for us. but it’s also a sacrifice that they are damn proud to be making. my uncle was over there and i’m proud of what he was able to do while on tour. had i another go-round at life, i probably would’ve joined the military myself. infact, i occasionally wonder if i could still join and where that would take me. i love the United States of America. i love my freedoms and i love and respect all those in the armed forces. thank you guys and gals.

but to those people who are blinded by their own freedoms and stupidity, i say to you: shut the fuck up.

i’m gonna watch the super bowl this year (enough of the stupid people rant). and i’m gonna be hoping for commercials worth watching. i remember when the commercials were fun to watch and we looked forward to them. they were comical and they were special. the last couple years, i’ve seen more movie previews and upcoming ’season premieres’ or ‘next week on 24′ (or whatever other stupid show)… what happened world? the biggest event of the year – millions upon millions watching and those marketing ‘guru’s can’t come up with something new and at least remotely entertaining? at least this should be a pretty good football game. i look forward to watching the game: i’ll even make a prediction. the team with the most points at the end, will win. i’ll even put money on that.

i’ll watch the commercials, too. and i’ll probably be disappointed like the last 4 or 5 or so years… unless… no, that would make too much sense and we can’t have that in this fuckt up world we live in.

man, i hate stupid people

i’ve been listening to the whole steroid issue on espn radio and whatnot and i’d like to give a lil insight on what i’m thinking. for those who don’t know what i’m talking about, MLB and NFL are in some big ole senate debates talking about what they can do to stop the steroidal use in their sports. sports radio stations are talking about this like mad and i’m tryin to figure out what the debate is all about. first off, it’s illegal to use steroids and yes, people do use them. but i’m thinking why do people use them? everyone in their right mind knows that they do VERY bad things to your body (kills your liver, side effects (roid rage), etc.) so what would possess someone to use em?

my theory about the decline of sports holds true to this simple principle. the wrong types of people are using them – when i say the wrong types of people, i’m talking about the thugs and trouble makers that are professional athletes these days. these are not people that kids should be looking up to – not at all. these are not people that kids should be idolizing. these are not people that should be making millions of dollars to be playing a game (and complaining about how they’re not getting paid more). professional basketball is a joke because of the ‘players’ who don’t respect the game and only want to get paid. football is going in that direction and baseball is well on it’s way. hockey we don’t have to worry about cuz it’ll be a couple years before they even play again… idiots (but that’s another story).

my point is with this whole steroid debate: if they get caught using em, don’t let them play. don’t give them another chance to warp the minds of kids across the nation. don’t give them another chance to taint the game that at one time was pure. people these days are lazy and will do anything to take the easy way out. it makes me sick. i find myself getting caught up in this mess from time to time – and THAT makes me sick. not only stiffen the penalties, but increase the testing – it don’t take long to piss in a cup. i mean, you ever seen a bathroom before a game? (some maybe havn’t) – there are usually lines for the stalls, cuz the adrenaline kicks in and you gotta pee – it’s a normal reaction (i don’t have any resources, but this is true – go ahead look it up, i don’t have the time).

seriously folks, football, baseball, basketball… they’re all going downhill. you wanna know why it’s so difficult to get people to a vikings game? cuz a vast number of people think the team is nothing more than a group of overpaid thugs. and while in many cases this is dead-on accurate, this is not the way it should be. what ever happened to the rolemodels, decent individuals and good, honest people? nobody focuses on these people. i HATE the media cuz they’re so negative, cuz that’s all they focus on. during the draft, the commentators kept talking about aaron rogers, the cal QB who the packers picked with the 24th pick. he was slated to possibly go #1 in the draft. for whatever reason, he didn’t. and the commentators kept talking (and to some degree still are talking) about the fact that with every pick that passed and he didn’t get drafted, he was losing about $500,000 in his signing bonus/salary. i’m sorry, but he’ll sign for a nice lil chunk of change bigger than anything we’ll ever see. and he ended up in possibly the best scenario for him. he’ll get to study the game under one of the best QB’s in the league (ever). and when favre besides it’s time to hang up the cleats, he’ll have experience and more to build on. rather than going to a team that needs a QB instantly and he’s thrown to the dogs and the stupid media gives him hell, cuz he’s strugglin a bit. just an example. another case in point: ahman green (RB for the green bay packers) just got arrested for domestic violence. i don’t know the whole story – i havn’t read anything about it, i just saw the headlines… but it’s in the headlines, it’s all over the sports sections across the US. now in contrast, Jerry Parins, a long-time member of the packers organization (former assistant coach) has been working diligently on his Cruise for Cancer campaign. where a handful of packers players will help out with this event and donate their time. will we ever see this in any newspaper outside of green bay? i doubt it.

that’s just a quick example, there are probably better ones out there, but that popped into my head right away.

my point is, i play semi-pro football because i LOVE PLAYING THE GAME. we need more people to play professional football who are doing it for the right reasons not because they can become famous and make millions of dollars – but because they like playing the game. it’s not all about the benjamins folks, it never has been and it never will be.
