It’s not too often I hear much of anything regarding Wisconsin politics, which in the past has been just fine with me – living in western Wisconsin means I get Minnesota channels and Minnesota radio stations. In fact, the only way i know anything about someone who’s running in the state of Wisconsin is by yard signage that I should start to see in about a year (ugh). Since I’ve been listening to the talk radio on my way to work, I find that, unfortunately, I’m unable to avoid political rhetoric and commentary.

Regardless, this past week we found Wisconsin politics in many regional and national news outlets. Now I do not classify myself as a Republican nor a Democrat, conservative or liberal. I’ve quickly realized that Wisconsin has always been a Democratically controlled state – very liberal – and that my leanings are not liberal. I’ve mentioned before, time and time again my disdain for government as we’ve known it recently. And for the first time in a long time, I see some common sense coming out of a government official (Governor Scott Walker).

I see a lot of the B as in B, S as in S facebook ads promoting support for the unions as “supporting the working families”, which I find very odd – seeing as how those union benefits do absolutely NOTHING to support my working family. In fact, those will actually HURT my family. I work for a non-profit organization and I love what I do. If I do not do my job and/or do it well, I do not expect to be rewarded. However, if I do my job and do it well, I do expect to be rewarded – and I would hope that I would be able to keep those rewards and do what I wish with those rewards.

I understand that some level of taxation is necessary, I’m not about to doubt that – I enjoy roads (could do without the idiots who don’t know how to drive on said roads when there’s a little bit of snow, but that’s for another conversation), the police and fire departments and I realize that there’s some administration costs for running these things. But why am I paying for my retirement, saving money, paying for my health care – in addition to paying, through taxation, for other people’s retirement (pension) and health care, when they’re not paying 1/4 of what I’m paying into my own. Not only that but pensions are pretty much gone in the private arena. My parents both lost their pensions a few years back through some sneaky corporation financial wizardry. They have to work longer to make up for those promised benefits. It sucks for them, but they will continue to work for their rewards. Why is a teacher’s pension or a governmental worker’s pension completely safe from cutting like my parent’s was? The teacher’s union has too much power. We can’t touch their precious funds. And sure it would suck for the teacher’s to lose some or all of that pension, but how much of that pension have they paid into?

Why is it that a governmental office cannot fix what is broken? When my wife and I look at our finances, and see that we’re bringing in a certain amount and what we’re spending is more than that, we have to make a decision: stop spending so much, make more money or add debt. The third option is one we both HATE to do and is the very last thing we want. The second would be lovely, however, we’re only able to control so much of that. We both work hard to do what we can. The easiest thing to do is to stop spending so much – which I think we do fairly well. We’ve cut a lot of frivolous things out of our lives and some not so frivolous things. I haven’t played football in a couple years because it just costs too much in terms of moneys and time (I haven’t officially signed my retirement papers yet, I’m just taking a hiatus). The Wisconsin government is, FINALLY, trying to do the same thing. They see the need to cut spending and the unions are blocking them from fixing what is broken because it means some people need to work harder or longer. Well, boo f’n hoo. Times are tough. If taxes get raised, people and companies are going to leave the state and the tax revenue is going to decrease. You want more money for the government to do its thing? Make it more affordable to live and work here. Let businesses profit and expand and hire more employees. Let me spend my money in a manner that I wish to boost the economy – by purchasing products that are fairly priced and perform as promised.

Maybe this means I fall into the category of a conservative… if that’s the case, then so be it. I’m still not going to fall victim to party games (unless it’s Pictionary, Balderdash, Euchre or some other fun one) or party politics. Imma speak my mind and do what I think and feel is right for me and my family. If you have a problem with that – you can go f yourself.

why is it such a difficult task to live within means? the concept of “Not spending more than you bring in” is one that many people today don’t subscribe to. why is it so difficult to keep within a budget?

i know i’ve failed to properly budget and have found myself in a world of debt that i’d rather not be in (i think we’re better off than many these days, but i’d rather not have any debt). and we are aware that some of our decisions haven’t been the greatest (the purchase of our home couldn’t have come at a worse time, for example). but we’re dealing with our financial issues… we’re paying off our debts, we’re not buying new TVs or cars or much of anything. just last night i sewed a hole in a pair of jeans – hoping that i won’t need to buy a new pair anytime soon. we’re trying to be more frugal with our money. we don’t frequent expensive eateries nor have we ‘gone out’ in quite a while. i would love to build my perma-house right now and get out of the townhome, but we’re making things work.

after watching this video and listening to some talk radio… why can’t the government, who works for us, stay within its own means? it truly makes me sick – i work for my money, i live in a town home that is smaller than i’d like, i drive a car to save on gas (rather than taking “Sunshine” for a stroll to work), we pay more than the minimum amount on payments – because we don’t want to have that debt over our heads forever… who wants to live like that?

i could discuss so many different areas of government that i think should not be a governmental department, and where spending by the government is just, by definition, retarded. i do hope that the changes in office from November make some serious impact on the way shyt gets done in DC, i really, really do.

every once in a while, i get one of those forward emails that i think holds merit to be repeated. i generally don’t forward them on, even though Nancy from Newark forwarded hers on and found $100,000 in an old trunk in her attic and Tony from Pensacola didn’t and got eaten by a pack of wild boars the next day… i don’t know if it’s sad or impressive, but i’ve been listening to talk radio on the way to and from work. mostly to catch the sports related events, but they happen to talk other stuff too. and let me get this through: I HATE POLITICS! it’s a bunch of BS and really makes me ill when i hear about the shyt they get away with and force us law-abiding citizens into doing.

so without further ado, here’s the forward (and it has been confirmed on Snopes):

The article below is completely neutral… not republican or democrat.

545 PEOPLE

By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits? Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault.
They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits…

The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ, it’s because they want them in IRAQ If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power..

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees…

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.

What you do with this article now that you have read it……… Is up to you.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

YOU can help it get there!!!

Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day. Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years.

i love wordpress. it’s a great, flexible, easily customizable, often used and free CMS which started out as merely a blogging platform. I’ve used it for a long time (since v1.2 or something like that), i’ve seen it grow into the mecca of awesome that it has today. there are many benefits of wordpress that i enjoy greatly, including the automatic update from the admin panel, but the one thing that annoys the hells out of me is that stupid ‘hello dolly’ plugin. why must it be included with every update/upgrade? i’ve never used it, i never will. the first thing i have to do after an upgrade is to remove the stupid one-page plugin. it’s a waste. all i’m asking is that you don’t include it when you upgrade. keep it in the new installs, i have no problem with that. but if i don’t want it (which i very much do not), why do i have to keep deleting it from every site i update? if i wanted it, i wouldn’t have deleted it in the first place.

Please WordPress, stop including the ‘Hello Dolly’ plugin with system upgrades!

thank you.

came across this quality XKCD comic today:

wrong focus

while the focus has been on these AIG bonuses – the real problem is the fact that we’ve given them money at all… hey, government stay the FSCK out of the private affairs of businesses! if the government didn’t give AIG and those other institutions the stupid bailout money, we wouldn’t have to <airquotes>waste congress’s time</airquotes> with these unconstitutional-rush-bills that are taking away more and more of our liberties and freedoms…

why don’t people (and i’m referring to anyone in any position in government and the pBO apologists) realize that they are making it difficult for people to be forced to live with the consequences of their actions. face it, not everything you do will turn to gold. not every decision you make will be correct. and when you make bad decisions, bad financial purchases, when you bought a house you couldn’t afford… too F’n BAD. you figure out a way to handle your debts – maybe you’ll have to sell your 52″ plasma TV and your Wii… i don’t feel bad for you. as much as i would like a bigscreen TV and a Wii and a new bigger house, i can’t afford it and so i will have to wait for those luxuries. you should’ve done the same

i got this the other day in an email… a supposed to be funny, ha ha joke…

**The Heaviest Element Known to Science***

*Lawrence Livermore Laboratories has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science.

The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to complete.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2- 6 years. It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Governmentium’s mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.

This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.

When catalysed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

and now, my rant…
i’m not sure if this is a sign of me getting older or what, but i’ve started paying attention to this stuff lately and i’m not sure why. i get annoyed and pissed at almost everything i hear about. the goings ons in DC and in government in general is enough to make a person sick. i don’t want or need help from the government, i work for a living. and i’d rather they (government) just get out of my face.

we live in a house that i’d rather not be in – but we’re making our payments. and NOT looking for a handout. we know we signed onto the deal with our mortgage and we’re living with our decision. if the market tanks and people lose their butts a couple months before their retirement, that’s their fault. if the market tanks and people lose money on their ‘investment properties’ that’s their fault. the government is not supposed to protect people from their own bad decisions. if a company can’t make enough money to stay in business and can’t raise capitol themselves, then the company shouldn’t be around. survival of the fittest no longer applies?

i recently watched wall-e, and we’re going to end up like the people on the ship. we’ve already started NOT doing anything for ourselves. everyone is looking for handouts and bailouts – get off your ass, stop spending more money than you make…

or just wait for the worthless paper check from the government that our kids or our kids kids will have to pay for, selfish pricks

well kids, i just wanted to say bon voyage – as i’ll be boarding a plane and then a boat this weekend. katie and i are goin on a celebratory cruise of weekly proportions (a gift to katie for that graduation thing). i’s bout to grab some eatsies and we be leaving soonly time.

excited is an understatement

i been meaning to write about this for a couple days now. i think the idea of making English the national language of the United States of America is an excellent idea. i’ve always been annoyed when i have to wait for another set of instructions in spanish. and the idea that people can come into this great country and think that for one second they’ve never left home – is, when you get right down to it, a slap in the face. now, when i heard that the morons in the senate are actually doing something that might piss off some people who are trying to move their country here in all it’s (un)glory – and someone turns around and calls it ‘racist’. how the crap is that racist? when i go to france, i expect to 1) know some french 2) know someone who does know french c) expect to get mocked for not knowing french. either way, i’m not going to expect everyone in france to speak english. same with every other country. know the language or prepared to get lost. the only other ‘language’ i want to see menus in – in this greatest country on God’s green earth – is braille. and making english the national language is not racist. don’t try to play ‘the race card’ with everything that is somewhat controversial. “can’t we all just get along?” no, apparently we can’t – and it’s not the white man holdin all the minorities down. it’s all the minorities still thinking there is a glass ceiling. stop making excuses, get off your lazy minority @$$, get a job, know english, get an education, make yourself useful and we’ll all be better off.

not sure where this thought came from, but it came nonetheless. i was playing a few games of freecell, the quest is progressing and i was thinking about stupid people… and how there are way too many stupid people. and then i got to thinking about the olden days, olden even before i was around (i’ve heard stories). about the time when we went outside without helmets to go play in the yard, about the toys we used to play with that had sharp edges, about sockets without that stupid plastic cover. hey, we fell down, got hurt, scrapes and cuts – bled and bruised, but ya know what? we got back up, wiped away the tears and kept on playing after a period of time when it finally occurred to us that cryin wasn’t gettin us anywhere and that it really didn’t hurt that bad anyway. and you know what? after fallin down on the bike, we learned how to balance on two wheels.

what does this have to do with stupid people, you may ask… what DOESN’T it have to do with stupid people and the over population of stupid people on the planet today… if someone didn’t learn the first time that the gym set had sharp edges or if you ran out on the slippery ice or there was something else that, if not done correctly, would cause an individual pain – then that person would continue to get hurt until they corrected their behavior not do continue doing that activity that brought about the undesired effect. seems like common sense, don’t it? the idiot keeps doing it and getting hurt, the non-moron thinks, ‘hey, that doesn’t feel good, i’ll stop doing it’.

i’m not sure exactly when it started, but instead of letting kids learn these things on their own, parents over protected their, sometimes stupid, kids and the kids never learned. the parents made the kids wear helmets to cross the street or put plastic pads on the corners of gym sets or removed the gym sets altogether and made it not a requirement to have a gym class, cuz some people got hurt easily (gee, maybe they should’ve learned earlier in their life on their own how to not get hurt, but mommy cradled them too much). and all this snowballed and it got progressively worse and worse…

now, we’ve gone so far as to idiot-proof so many things (look at warning tags these days, are you kidding me? don’t use toaster in the shower. G.I.Joe parachute not suitable for real person) and made it almost impossible for stupid person to get it through their thick skulls that this activity isn’t advised to continue for one reason or another. and you know what? not only are stupid people living longer (cuz some of the activities that stupid people partook in just happened to kill them, [sarcasm]aaawwwww, poor stupid people[/sarcasm]), but now they’re reproducing stupid offspring and they’re not learning. in fact, they’re teaching stupid offspring how to continue to be stupid.

and all these stupid people are making life difficult for normal people, because now we’ve gotta establish stupid laws and rules. example: high school pole vaulters in minnesota MUST wear a helmet when vaulting. why? because stupid people vaulted wrong/incorrectly and/or didn’t do something correctly and killed themselves or got seriously hurt. (this is a stupid rule made by stupid people for a couple reasons, of which i won’t go into now perhaps another time) hey stupid person, learn how to vault correctly and you’ll be fine.

basically, what i’m getting at is stupid people tend to have stupid voices and these stupid voices are loud. what’s wrong with the world today? stupid people. with all the stupid rules, we’re allowing stupid people to flourish and reproduce and continue to be stupid. why don’t we away with stupid rules and let stupid people kill themselves off? go ahead and let em get hurt over and over again, until they finally learn, ‘hey, that’s not a good activity, perhaps i should stop seeing how long i can stare at the sun and find a better activity’ and ya know what? they might learn something, they might even find a way to contribute to society rather than continue to tear this great land to shreds. let them figure it out themselves, if they don’t figure it out… then they end up dying and that’s not a bad thing either – one less stupid person.

the funny part is, this wasn’t because i read or heard any particular story or article about a stupid people… it’s just a thought that popped into my head whilst playing freecell. i leave you now with a thought, how much gooder would the world be if everyone just had a little bit of common sense?

man, i hate stupid people.

got this from katie’s mom in the emails today… and yes, it’s worthy of a post – i could elaborate on it and add a plethora of examples… but i won’t, for now.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense

Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn’t always fair. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).
His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. – Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge financial settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

as always… man, i hate stupid people
